This unit sits in my attached garage in Las Vegas, NV where the summer heat can push the temperatures in my garage north of 100§ in the late afternoon. This freezer has worked fantastic in this harsh environment. Come July 1 of this year, we discovered the freezer stopped working. Internet search revealed that this freezer has a very common problem. Frigidaire freezers die unexpectedly after 2 to 2« years of use. Not a good track record. There was a 50+% chance that the control thermostat failed. I took a chance and purchased this part in the hope others have found the problem and this part corrected it. Prime delivery overnight to the rescue. Long story very short on installation * Removed two (2) shelves and the back panel held on by 10 screws. * Popped the thermostat out * Unplugged the three (3) wires (remember where they go - important) * Unmounted the thermocouple lead from the mounting bracket. Just reverse the order to install the new part and complete the job. Total time, including a water break -- 15 minutes. Five (5) pictures show what you will find when you undertake the job #1 - the original thermostat after removing from cooling shield #2 - The new thermostat I received in the Electrolux parts bag #3 - new thermostat installed and testing to see if it fixed the problem #4 - The back panel reinstalled with ten (10) screws and new thermostat installed #5 - Green light = everything is working just fine. The bottom light tells you is you were successful. If this light is out, something is wrong. In all, 5 days since my repair, my freezer works like a champ once again. It took 48 to 72 hours for the freezer to cool everything down to its programmed operating temperature (-10§ F) and have the freezer start cycling again. Don't be shocked when you first replace it and it runs constantly for hours and hours. This is all part of the normal cooling process until everything reaches normal user set temperatures. Be patient, it will start cycling again. Having success, I am purchasing another replacement thermostat now for the future. This parts design is bad and it will most likely go out again. When, I don't know, but I want to be prepared for when this freezer goes out on me again. Cheap insurance with part on hand. I will have, once again, problems where we had to thrown thawed and damaged food away. Repurchase is a minor investment into the future. I know there's a way to test parts for whether they are good or not, but I never figured out the whole multimeter thing. I first replaced the defrost timer, and then the fan motor. Waited a couple days and did some more research and then ordered this part. After replacing the thermostat I thought it didn't work at first but a couple minutes later everything started working. So happy I stuck with this repair. I was willing to try replacing parts up to a certain amount of money and then admit my defeat.
